What We're Studying

Below are some of the topics and learning targets we're currently working on in our classroom. Learning Targets are the concepts we focus on during each lesson.

3rd Grade Math (with Mrs. Schwartz):
*

4th Grade Math:
Chapter 2:
*Read a graph or tally chart to find LANDMARKS in a set of data (maximum, minimum, range, mode, and median).
*Accurately create a line plot or bar graph using given information.

Chapter 1:
*Accurately identify and create polygons.
*Use a compass to make circles and congruent segments.
*Draw parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines.
*Explain the difference between lines, segments, and rays.

Science:
Sound
*Experiment how sound travels through different materials such as water, paper, or wood.
*Understand that all sounds we hear stem from a vibration.
*Use our sense of hearing to identify different sounds and predict what objects are made of based on their sound characteristics.

Social Studies:
Pioneers
*

Reading:
*Read, Cover, Remember Retell - This is a strategy we use to prove that we are thinking about the words we're reading and that we're understanding what is written.
*Choosing books that are just right for us - Easy books are a thing of the past.  We're trying to find meaty chapter books that can build our confidence and push us to think harder...but NOT cause us to struggle and misunderstand what is happening.

Writing:
*Include a solid beginning, middle, and end in our stories.  Use a planning page to track our ideas and create a good WHOLE story.
*Use our Brainstorming Section and idea lists to come up with story ideas during Independent Writing time.
